Protect you and your family from daily toxins!
5 Easy Ways To Remove Toxins in Our Daily Life
Toxins are all around us, especially if you live in a big city. It’s essential to protect yourself against them in any way you can. A buildup of toxins in our body increases the free radicals, which can cause oxidative stress, damaging our cells, proteins, and DNA. A buildup of toxins can lead to health conditions like cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s.
While we can not control our outside environment, we can control our home environment, and removing toxins from our home can be simple and easy!
1. Improve your air quality
A high-quality air purifier with HEPA can help purify our home air. It removes dust, mold spores, allergens, and pollutants, all of which can create a toxin overload in our bodies. I bought our air purifier about three years ago and have noticed the difference, especially as NYC’s pollen count increases.
I swear by my air purifier. The one I have in my apartment is this. I love that it has three different settings and automatically toggles between them depending on the air quality. It even shuts off when no pollutants are detected. It will also alert you when it’s time to replace the filters.
2. Opt for all-natural cleaners
Have you ever read the ingredients in common cleaning products lately? What you can find in them is wild: ammonium, undescriptive “fragrance,” dye, bleach, phthalates, and many more. When inhaled or absorbed through the skin, these ingredients can cause skin irritants, disrupt the endocrine system, or irritate our throats and lungs. It's especially important with a little one in the house because, typically, they are barefoot and will put most things in their mouths. Also, their organs are still developing, so these toxins have a stronger effect on them.
I typically like to make my own all-natural cleaning products. This product’s shelf life is typically about 1 month.
2 Tablespoon of unscented Dr. Bronner’s Soap
1 Cup distilled water
10 drops of essential oil [I love to use lemon, orange, or eucalyptus!]
1 clean and dry glass spray bottle
If creating your own is not an option for you. I really like the seventh-generation all-purpose cleaner and Method’s All-Purpose Cleaner.

3. Invest in house plants
For all those with green thumbs or who are inspiring gardeners, this one is for you!
Plants are a great way to remove toxins from your home because they are natural air cleaners! They take in carbon dioxide and release fresh, pure oxygen back into the air! The best plants for this job are snake plants and spider plants.
4. Natural Personal Care Products
Everything we put on our skin and hair is absorbed into our body. So, we must ensure the use of non-toxic face products, soaps, lotions, and detergents. It’s important to look at the labels and try to remove or reduce products with synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. All of these can increase our toxin load.
Some of my favorite products are Dr. Bonner's soap bar [their liquid soap is also good; you need to dilute it!], everyone lotion, and Mrs. Meyer’s laundry detergent or Seventh Generation laundry pods.
Our skin is our biggest organ, so we must protect it!

5. Reduce your use of plastic
Over the years, I have slowly replaced my plastic containers [even BPA-free ones] with glass ones. I do not want to cause more waste, so I have not thrown the plastic out, but as they break, I have been replacing them with glass, stainless steel, or ceramic. Plastic products will break down into microplastics, which will be ingested, inhaled, or absorbed into our bodies. I also opt for bamboo or wooden cutting boards.
I hope these simple and easy swaps help keep our and our family's toxin levels as low as possible!
