How I'm starting My 2025

I don't believe in resolutions...

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Before I begin this piece, I wanted to thank all of you for the support you have shown me and for being part of this community. I hope to continue to grow this space in the new year and connect this passion with more individuals. If you know anyone who would be interested in joining this community, please pass along my blog! Also, I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or topics you would like to be covered. This blog is for YOU, so please don’t be shy. Okay, now for why you all are here…

I don’t believe in New Year Resolutions. I honestly think they aren’t helpful. They are usually fueled by guilt, lack, or judgment, all things I do not subscribe to (honestly, these motivations are why so many resolutions fail). So, instead, I look at the new year a bit differently.

Let me break down how I approach this valuable time of year:

The Reflection

In the year transition, I always start with a reflection. During this phase, I always focus on the positive. It’s important to start with what went well. The questions that I start with are:

  1. What are you proud of?

  2. What did you accomplish?

  3. What did you do for others this year?

  4. What did you do to fill your own cup?

As I mentioned in previous posts, there is a power of starting with positives. It allows your mind to capture and absorb the positive momentum. Doesn’t it always feel better when you are complimented or praised? It’s important that we take note of all the good. It turns on a parasympathetic nervous system and helps connect us with an abundance mentality.

The Change

I would be remiss to say that a new year doesn’t mean new change. I prompt myself to recognize how I want to change but don’t take a negative motivation. Studies show that when you are motivated by the negativity of guilt, judgment, or lack, you will never actually change because you are fueled with negativity. So, instead, I ask this:

  1. What do I want to leave behind in 2024? What is no longer serving me?

  2. What do I want to keep and move forward into 2025?

  3. What is my goal this year?

    1. Why do I want to achieve this?

    2. What resources do I have to get there?

    3. What resources do I need to obtain to get there?

    4. What’s my first step?

We attract what we put out, so if our motivation is negative, our actions will also be negative. These questions prompt the permission to leave ideas that don’t serve me anymore while also asking me to continue to pull forward those that do. It also creates the opportunity to break down goals that can be complex and feel overwhelming.

The Mantra

Every year, I create a theme of what I want to embody for the year. I do this after reviewing my journaling and after I vision board (also a really fun reflection activity!). My mantra is the daily motivation that I create, which sums up what I want to be like this year. When I make one, I place it somewhere I can see every day because what we envision and pay attention to will flourish. So mine is on my window in my room.

The new year is all about reflection. It’s about taking pause. It’s about honoring all you did, big and small. It’s about pulling forward the behaviors and beliefs that continue serving our desires and leaving those in the past that no longer are. I suggest doing this in a space where you can take time and think through your answers. I hope this helps everyone start this new year on the right foot. As always, I’m here.
