Living For Your Future Self
A simple framework for intentional living
I am not the person who has it all figured out. I do not wake up every morning and execute a flawless routine. I forget things. I have weeks where everything feels sideways. I have moments when I choose the thing I know does not serve me, and I know it as I do it. And I’m okay with this.
I long stopped trying to be that old version of myself. The one who never appeared to miss a step. Who had a perfect routine and went through the day checking boxing instead of really being present. That version of myself was exhausting and disconnected. And it was keeping me stuck.
What I do now is simpler. It’s more intentional.
Every time I am about to make a decision, even a small one, I ask myself one question: is this moving me toward the Erika I want to be, or away from her?
That is it. That is the whole thing.
Not, is this the “right” choice? Not, is this what a “healthy person” would do? Just: does this belong in the life I want and the one I am intentionally building?
What I am really doing when I ask this question is living like the person I want to be, now. Living like your future self is not a grand gesture. It is not a total lifestyle overhaul. It is just the next small decision.
Sometimes it looks like walking to the store instead of driving. Not because I am hitting a step goal. But because the woman I am becoming enjoys moving her body and wants to be able to long into her future.
Sometimes it is cooking at home on a Tuesday, instead of picking up takeout. Because I know cooking helps to calm my nervous system, it is an act of self-love, and can be more nourishing to my mind and soul. And Future Erika really embraces this core value.
And sometimes it is saying yes to dinner with my friends even when perhaps it’s not the most convenient. Because the life I want is full of love and community. And love requires showing up, being there, creating connection. I have to make that choice again and again, in the small ways, or it just does not happen.
Here is the thing. Your nervous system responds to what you actually do and say to yourself, repeatedly. Not what you intended it to be and not what you did that one time. It’s what you choose, over and over, in the small and big moments.
Every time you make a choice that belongs to the person you are becoming, you send a signal of selffulness, awareness, and intentionality. You make it clear to your mind that this choice is safe. And that signal builds. Slowly, it becomes the baseline. It' becomes the automatic response.
That is what the HealthE lifestyle is really about. Not a rigid structure. Not a schedule you are surviving through. It is about being intentional with the small and large moments. It’s asking which choice moves you forward towards the life you want.
I am not where I want to be yet. And I am not behind. I am just in it, choosing the next best thing, letting go of the rest, and trusting that it is enough.
You can do the same.
And if you are not sure who your future self actually is yet, that is okay.
That is one of the most powerful things we can do together. Sometimes we are so deep inside our own story with our old filters that we cannot see it clearly from the outside.
