Clear Space in Your Mind, Home & Body This Spring

Springtime always reminds me it’s time to reset.

It’s time to start clearing the clutter from our homes and the emotional, digital, and energetic clutter that builds up in our minds. I spoke to a friend today about how, sometimes, taking a mental break is nice. During our conversation, we shared how we have benefited from this. With spring approaching, perhaps it’s time to invoke this mental clarity again. A gentle detox for your inner world so you can step into the season feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected.

Here are four simple, but powerful ways I like to reset my mind, body, and space this spring.

1. Journaling to Clear Your Mind

Journaling is like tidying up a messy drawer in your brain—it makes room for mental clarity. It always helps me when I‘m feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just out of sync. It helps me process and better understand what’s going on in my mind.

Here are some prompts to help you get started:

  • What am I holding onto that’s no longer serving me?

  • What do I want to create space for this season?

  • How would I feel if I allowed myself to let go of one thing holding me back?

  • What is one thing that I am looking forward to?

The amount you write doesn't matter; a few minutes daily will shift your mental space.

2. Set Boundaries with Technology

Let’s face it — we are constantly plugged in. I’m guilty of it too. The constant notifications, scrolling, endless news cycles, and digital noise can leave us feeling overstimulated and mentally drained.

Try these quick digital detox tips:

  • Create phone-free zones (like your bedroom or dining table)

  • Turn off unnecessary notifications (I’m a big fan of do not disturb during the day)

  • Take one day a week off from social media — your brain will thank you

These small boundaries can help you reclaim your time, energy, and peace of mind.

3. Breathwork to Calm Your Nervous System

When your mind is cluttered or you feel overwhelmed, your breath becomes shallow and irregular. But when you breathe with intention, you activate your body’s natural relaxation response. That means less stress, more clarity, and better decision-making.

One of my favorite techniques is box breathing:

  • Inhale for 4 counts

  • Hold for 4 counts

  • Exhale for 4 counts

  • Hold again for 4 counts
    Repeat for 3–5 times.

Do this anytime you feel overwhelmed.

4. Detox Your Space to Detox Your Mind

Your physical environment has a direct impact on your mental state. Cluttered space often means an untidy mind. I’m consistently organizing and reorganizing our space to help reduce cognitive overload.

Start with:

  • Clearing off your nightstand and work area

  • Organize your kitchen space for easy cooking

  • Letting in fresh air and natural light

  • Using essential oils like lemon, eucalyptus, or rosemary

  • Donating items that no longer bring joy or no longer fit

Create a space that feels light, fresh, and intentional.

Mental detoxing isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about creating a little space—in your schedule, your mind, your home—so that your nervous system can settle and your true energy can return.
